Clear Reef: Bringing Global Expertise in Aquariums, Oceanariums and Marine Conservation

Clear Reef is an international specialist in the design, development, operation and management of aquariums, oceanariums and aquatic animal parks, with a strong focus on marine education, conservation and animal welfare.

With activities and teams spanning France, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius and Morocco, Clear Reef has established an international presence in the highly specialised world of aquatic life. The company works with developers, investors and facility owners across the complete lifecycle of major aquatic projects — from feasibility studies and design to construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance.

Founded around a team with decades of experience in the aquarium and marine-park sector, Clear Reef brings together designers, engineers, project managers, veterinarians, biologists, zoologists, aquarists and technical specialists. According to the company's official profile, its management team has experience with more than 50 public aquarium and marine zoo projects worldwide over more than three decades.

From Concept to Operation

Clear Reef's expertise extends beyond the construction of an aquarium. The company can be involved from the earliest stages of a project, including feasibility studies, concept development, design and engineering, through project management, animal commissioning and the eventual operation of the facility.

Its operational expertise covers both the biological and technical sides of aquatic facilities. This includes animal care, water-quality management, life-support systems, technical maintenance and day-to-day facility operations.

The company's international portfolio includes projects and collaborations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and other regions. Its references include Oceanopolis in France, Fakieh Aquarium in Jeddah, Aquarium Kuwait at Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre, Oceanarium Mauritius and several other major aquatic facilities.

Strong Presence in the Middle East

Saudi Arabia has been an important market for Clear Reef. The company has operated the Fakieh Aquarium in Jeddah since 2011. The facility, which opened to the public in 2013, includes more than 5 million litres of marine water across approximately 50 tanks and hosts thousands of aquatic animals. Clear Reef is responsible for technical and biological operations as well as animal care.

The company's experience also extends to Kuwait, where it was involved in the aquarium facilities at the Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre, including fit-out consultancy, animal commissioning, start-up and ongoing biological and facility management.

Mauritius: Combining Tourism, Education and Conservation

One of Clear Reef's notable projects is the Odysseo Oceanarium in Mauritius, developed in partnership with the local Eclosia Group. Located on the waterfront in Port Louis, the project covers approximately 5,000 square metres and includes 45 tanks containing around two million litres of marine water.

The project was designed not only as a visitor attraction but also as a platform for education and greater awareness of marine biodiversity and conservation. Odysseo Oceanarium opened in September 2021.

Conservation at the Core

Beyond its commercial activities, Clear Reef places marine conservation and education among its key objectives. The company operates the Clear Reef Social Fund for Marine Research and Conservation, which it describes as a fully philanthropic initiative financed exclusively through Clear Reef's own income.

The fund aims to support initiatives at the intersection of social development, marine research and conservation.

Clear Reef's philosophy is based on using aquatic facilities as opportunities to help visitors better understand marine life and the importance of protecting natural resources. Through education, research and responsible animal care, the company seeks to connect public experiences with broader marine conservation objectives.

Looking Ahead

With its current presence in France, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius and Morocco, Clear Reef continues to develop its international activities in the aquarium and marine-life sector.

From large-scale oceanariums and public aquariums to conservation and research facilities, the company's approach combines design and engineering, biological expertise, animal welfare, technology and professional operations.

As demand grows for educational, recreational and conservation-focused aquatic facilities around the world, Clear Reef aims to contribute its international experience and specialised knowledge to the next generation of aquarium and oceanarium projects.

Clear Reef — expertise in aquatic life, with a commitment to innovation, education and marine conservation.
