Dubai: It was a matter of great pride for Aim India Forum (AIF) to participate in an important and meaningful interaction with Her Excellency Smt. Sripriya Ranganathan, Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, along with senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian diplomatic mission in the UAE.
The interaction provided a valuable platform to place the concerns, challenges and practical realities faced by the Indian diaspora, particularly blue-collar workers and women workers, before senior policymakers and diplomatic representatives.
The interaction was joined by Shri Ankan Banerjee, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, and Smt. Aaradhika Nair, Under Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, along with other senior officials.
The meeting was also attended by H.E. Dr. Deepak Mittal, Ambassador of India to the UAE, H.E. Dr. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Consul General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Smt. Ankita Wakekar, Consul (Labour), Consulate General of India, Dubai.
Giving a Voice to the Grassroots
Representing Aim India Forum, Founder President Dr. Shirali Shaikh Muzaffer made a detailed and constructive presentation highlighting several issues affecting Indian workers and vulnerable members of the diaspora.
• Strengthening support mechanisms for blue-collar and vulnerable Indian workers.
• Special attention and support systems for women workers facing distress or difficult circumstances.
• The possibility of establishing a dedicated legal assistance cell within the Embassy/Consulate for Indians facing legal and labour-related challenges.
• Expansion and strengthening of One Stop Centres and shelter homes for distressed and stranded Indian nationals.
• Better coordination between community organisations, Indian diplomatic missions and relevant UAE authorities.
• Creating stronger mechanisms for early intervention, legal guidance, documentation and repatriation assistance.
NyayaMitra — A Community-Based Legal Support Model
A significant part of the discussion focused on NyayaMitra – Your Legal Friend, the legal-support initiative of Aim India Forum.
Through NyayaMitra, AIF has developed a practical community-level model aimed at assisting blue-collar workers who may otherwise struggle to understand or navigate legal procedures.
Dr. Muzaffer presented the experience gained through the initiative and proposed how similar structured legal-support mechanisms could be strengthened through institutional cooperation.
The objective is simple: no Indian worker should feel helpless simply because they cannot afford legal assistance or do not understand the local legal process.
From Problems to Practical Solutions
One of the central messages conveyed by Aim India Forum was the importance of moving beyond simply reporting problems and developing practical, implementable solutions.
The officials appreciated the inputs and the community-level experience shared by AIF. The discussions also covered the importance of continued dialogue, exchange of information and coordination with relevant UAE authorities wherever required.
The interaction opened an important avenue for further engagement on policies and mechanisms that can strengthen the welfare and protection of the Indian diaspora in the UAE.
A Meaningful Moment for Aim India Forum
For Aim India Forum, the interaction represented more than a formal meeting. It was an opportunity to carry the voices of workers, distressed Indians and vulnerable members of the community to a senior policy-level platform.
AIF believes that community organisations have an important role to play in identifying challenges at the grassroots level and presenting constructive, solution-oriented recommendations to governments and diplomatic missions.
The organisation remains committed to its guiding principle:
“We don’t want to be another organisation that comes to the Consulate with problems; we want to come with solutions.”
Through continued engagement with the Government of India, Embassy of India, Consulate General of India, UAE authorities and community organisations, Aim India Forum will continue working towards creating a more informed, protected and empowered Indian diaspora in the UAE.
The meeting was a significant reminder that when grassroots experience reaches the right policy platforms, community concerns can become the foundation for meaningful institutional dialogue and better support systems for Indians abroad.
