Udupi: As part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, a tree planting programme was organised at the premises of the District Hospital in Ajjarkad, Udupi, under the ‘Hasiru Hejje’ environmental conservation campaign. The programme was organised under the supervision of Sharfuddin Sheikh Kapu.
The initiative was jointly organised by Udupi District Hospital, Karnataka Forest Department, EarthFest India and Ek Saath, in association with the Udupi District Congress Minority Cell.
Entrepreneur and Congress leader Prasad Raj Kanchan, District Surgeon Dr. Ashok, Dr. Santosh Kumar Bairampalli, Hameed Yousuf Mooloor, Nazeer Ahmed, Roshan Rodrigues, Anil, Ranjitha, Peter Pratap, and other dignitaries participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries stressed the growing importance of environmental conservation and said that protecting the planet for future generations is a collective responsibility. They called for greater emphasis on environment-friendly initiatives, including planting and nurturing trees, while creating greater awareness among the public about environmental protection.
Speaking on behalf of EarthFest India, Sharfuddin Sheikh said that tree planting programmes have been organised at 25 locations across Karnataka as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
He further announced that EarthFest India and Ek Saath will continue to organise tree planting initiatives during national festivals such as Republic Day and Independence Day. He also announced that the two organisations will jointly undertake a programme to plant 10,000 saplings in Udupi district in September.
Hameed Yousuf and Roshan Rodrigues expressed their gratitude to everyone who participated in and supported the environmental conservation initiative.
